In what seems like the never ending saga of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I received a letter today from Volkswagen Finance Canada containing an insurance settlement cheque for $4k! It came a little out of nowhere, considering they've given me a $1000 loyalty voucher for a new VW, but I suppose it has something to do with a percentage of the cost I had already paid for the car. I'm sure they also already know that it will likely be my deposit on a Mk7 GTI so I guess they get the last laugh.

I do think that ur car is the first golf i've ever heard of to go up in flames....
that sucks man.
just, uh. be careful about a GTI. from what i understand, they have some of the highest insurance premiums. (here in canada anyways)

I think you're right about that, but I hope I've satisfied enough of their criteria to make it affordable (single male over 25 living in Ontario without any previous convictions — fire claim not withstanding)

When I bought my first Golf, I lived in Cambridge and paid $200+ for insurance then I moved to Ottawa for work and it dropped by $50 right away. I'll have to make sure I get some quotes before signing the paperwork.
